Digital Related Questions
- Why go digital?
- There are many reasons for choosing digital, but here are a few of the main ones:
- The digital format is perfect for those who are not always located at the same site as the person who will be typing the document. Digital allows the author maximum flexibility for getting their work to their typist. There is no need to physically send a tape as voice files may be sent to a typist by email, PC Network, the Internet or by simply making a phone call and following voice prompts. This digital feature delivers instant savings in time and money.
- There are far fewer moving parts in digital machines which provides improved reliability.
- Corrections and changes to your dictation are extremely quick and easy. No need to wait for the tape to rewind or fast forward.
- Unlike cassettes, digital recordings will not alter over time, giving you a permanent record which can be stored electronically along with other computer files.
- Media cards hold a lot more dictation hours and, unlike cassettes generally don't need replacing.
- When using a digital portable recorder, what happens if the batteries go flat? Is the recording lost?
- No. Portable digital recorders use a NON VOLATILE memory system (commonly SD media or Compact Flash media cards) just like in digital cameras. Your dictation remains stored until intentionally being erased by an electrical charge.
- How many minutes of recording time are available before download when using a portable digital recorder?
- This depends on the model chosen, and the size of the media card being used. It can range from a few hours up to twenty-two hours. It is recommended that regular downloads occur as this helps to keep the work moving through the system.
- Is digital more expensive than analogue?
- It depends very much on the specific setup you require as some products are more expensive and some are cheaper. Keep in mind the value of the above mentioned savings and benefits, even if your up front costs initially seem higher than analogue.
